Future Intentions
My future intentions are to expand my private practice in the Lethbridge area, as well as providing Animal Assisted Therapy Services to clients from around Southern Alberta at our ranch near Fort Macleod.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT is a mindfulness-based behavioural therapy. It involves the integration of a variety mindfulness skills, and relies significantly on the use of metaphors. ACT also incorporates a wide range of experiential exercises and values-guided behavioural interventions. ACT has proven effective with a diverse range of clinical conditions: anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic stress, pain, PTSD, disordered eating, addictions, etc.
Animal Assisted Therapy
I believe my strength lies in my ability to form strong and healthy therapeutic alliances with clients. I strive to be very person centred with clients. I believe it is important that they feel heard, in a way that honours them as unique individuals.
Having said this, I recognize that not all clients are able to connect with counsellors in the same way. Some may be looking for alternative forms of mental health support in addition to or instead of face to face counselling. This is why I have expanded my skills to include animal assisted therapy (AAT), especially for clients with a trauma history. AAT allows clients to opportunity to develop skills such as regulation and boundary setting in an experiential way, while also providing them the space to process any feelings, behaviours, and patterns that arise. |
